Figures

I’m selling two large Negima figures, both come with their original packaging and are in mint condition, they do have a bit of dust on them from being displayed but that’s it. :)  I’m asking $35 for each of them.

I’m selling the following Japanese manga.  I bought these used while I was in Japan back in 2001, each volume is $3 unless otherwise noted.  Each title links to a picture of the cover.



Posters

These posters all came from a couple of Megami issues, all are double-sided (they have one poster on the front, another on the back).  I’ve noted what series a poster is from if I know.  I’m asking $5 for each poster (which includes both front and back).  There’s only one copy of each poster unless otherwise indicated.

]]> http://www.animemaestro.com/archives/selling-some-stuff/feed 3 Halloween, Cosplay and Candy http://www.animemaestro.com/archives/halloween-cosplay http://www.animemaestro.com/archives/halloween-cosplay#comments Tue, 31 Oct 2006 04:37:00 +0000 Maestro http://www.animemaestro.com/archives/halloween-cosplay It’s time for Halloween again, a holiday custom made for cosplay if there ever was one, at least the way it’s celebrated in the United States.  Even though most of us in the US associate Halloween with kids wearing costumes and going trick-or-treating for candy, the practice of wearing costumes is fairly recent historically.  According to the Wikipedia entry on Halloween, wearing costumes or masks didn’t really occur until 1900.  It was only in the 1950s that Halloween masks started being mass produced and the holiday changed to what we know it as today.  In the 1990s companies started to commercialize Halloween even further and started selling more, and more varied, decorations in addition to costumes and masks.

Cosplay, shortened from Costume Play, is associated with dressing up in costumes like anime/manga/videogame characters, or at least this is the way most anime/manga fans outside of Japan define it.  In Japan cosplay happens at quite a few events throughout the year, but cosplayers do not limit themselves to only manga/anime/videogames characters but cosplay as characters from movies as well.  In the US most cosplay takes place at the numerous anime conventions that occur throughout the country each year.

However, Halloween certainly offers the opportunity to cosplay and with Halloween a popular holiday on college campuses I was wondering how many of you out there are planning to cosplay for Halloween?  To that end I’ve got a poll that I’d like everyone to vote on over on the sidebar.  I’d also like to hear from everyone about their cosplay plans, are you going to a party, going to be doing some trick-or-treating, or something else?  Please leave a comment and let us all know! :)
